Basically I think the capacitor bonus on the Large Capacitor Battery II needs to be buffered. Ignoring the CPU portion of the fitting requirements, a Medium Capacitor Battery II boosts capacitor amount 5.6 GJ / MW at the expense of one midslot. A large Capacitor Battery II only boosts capacitor 2.55 GJ / MW at the expense of the same midslot. That is less than half the efficiency of the medium capacitor battery!
If a Large Capacitor Battery was as efficient GJ/MW as a medium one it would boost cap by 1,540 GJ as opposed to the current 700 GJ. That is a 840 GJ boost. Granted, I am also aware that large capacitor batteries are 25% more effective at countering energy neutralizers and vampires as a medium one.
So my suggestion would be to boost the cap bonus of a large capacitor battery II to 1330 GJ. This is the current 700 GJ + 75% of 840 GJ difference. I offset the 840 GJ difference in efficiency by the same 25% bonus to capacitor integrity (what I call the defense against neuts and nos) that the large capacitor battery has over a medium.
When you have a module that adds a flat bonus to base stats, the idea of 700 is not really 700. You are ignoring a big component of what a capacitor battery does:
boost cap recharge rate
in addition to
Boost capacitor amount reflects nos/neut
Ok, so lets start with the capacitor amount issue:
700 is not really 700.
There are a multitude of ways that 700 is really more than it suggest. The most obvious is the 25% from sills boost to mount. A large battery gains 175 additional capacitor from this skill totally 875 capacitor. By comparison, a medium only gains 105 for a total of 525. That means your net difference on cap just right there is 350... not the original 280 you suggested.
When you look at the capacitor recharge rate, there's also no doubt that the large is going to have more impact.
Then you have to start taking in ancillary effects such as:
Power Diagnostic systems Rigs Ship bonuses (this used to be more frequent than it currently is)
When you consider those sorts of things it can play a huge role in just how drastic the effect of a large is over a medium.
That all said, I do believe the CPU req's need to be lowered quite a bit on the batteries. The large should be about 70, the Medium should be about 45. Still really high, but much more reasonable. |
